What’s in your emergency survival kits? The kit in your car probably includes blankets, water, and non-perishable food. Your hiking kit might contain a compass and whistle as well. In addition to basic survival tools like these, every emergency kit should also include an LED flashlight. An LED flashlight is a life-saving tool, as shown by some of the user testimonials below.
Lost
Robert, a law enforcement official, was enjoying a two-hour hike in New Hampshire with his son’s Boy Scout troop until unforeseen delays and obstacles threw them off course. The sun set, the temperature dropped, and snow began to fall. The trail was soon lost as markers were covered by the rising snow. Everyone was cold, tired, and wet. After finding shelter in the form of a cabin, the three troop leaders began retracing their steps-no easy task in dark, snowy conditions. Fortunately, the LED flashlight that Robert had pocketed almost as an afterthought helped lead the troop to safety by illuminating their footprints in the snow. Robert wryly remembers: “One of the adults lugged a 3 D-cell light up the hill only to find out it was dead.”
Search and Rescue
Sometimes travelers get injured or fall victim to an unforeseeable act of nature like an avalanche, earthquake, or unexpected inclement weather. Search and rescue can be difficult in these instances, especially in remote wilderness. For search and rescue teams operating during night hours, a bright LED light could help speed up the search and rescue process. Furthermore, if you’re immobilized without the ability to create a signal or move to safety, an LED flashlight is exactly the tool to save your life by alerting search and rescue workers where you are located.
Home Invasion
It’s just after two o’clock in the morning. Your spouse is in bed next to you, your children down the hall in their bedrooms. Suddenly, your eyes open wide, and you’re fully awake. You’ve heard something unfamiliar. You sit straight up in bed and realize that someone is in your home. What are you going to do?
In the dark of night, you’re going to want all the brightness an LED bright light can offer — it’s just the instrument you’ll need to protect your family and ward off intruders.
Parachute Problems
George, a former U.S. paratrooper, was participating in an airborne training exercise. Upon landing, his chute re-inflated and proceeded to drag him down the drop zone at a rapid and increasing speed. Thankfully, George was carrying an LED keychain light and knife combo. Using the knife, George cut away one of the riser straps in order to collapse the parachute and save his life. George’s little LED keychain light, mainly used for finding his car on dark nights, saved his life because of one brilliant innovation. This final scenario, admittedly, is one most people are not likely to encounter, but this true tale is compelling nonetheless, and certainly applicable to more than just parachutes.
Whether you’re an avid adventurer, homeowner, or even a paratrooper, an LED tactical torch will bring you comfort and aid if you should find yourself in a life-threatening situation.
A basic requirement as a merchandiser, accident prevention is the responsibility of a store owner who is expected to assist management in any unsafe behavior as outlined by the company’s established safety regulations and procedures. Employees should never be expected to work in an unsafe environment.
And while most people blame accidents on unsafe conditions, most accidents are caused by unsafe behaviors and the best way to eliminate accidents is to avoid unsafe practices.
To begin, housekeeping is a continuous process needed to keep the workplace free of debris and other hazards. Periodic inspections should be performed to review housekeeping practices and identify workplace hazards. Some housekeeping tips are:
1. Keep work areas clean and orderly. While working, employees should keep aisles open to customers.
2. Store tools, equipment and supplies in their proper place. When box cutters or safety knives are not in use, the blade must be kept in the closed position, locked with the guard in place.
3. Wipe spills up from the floor immediately. Notify a supervisor if additional help is needed.
4. Do not stack totes more than four high. Use dollies or flat-tops to transport heavier totes of more than one at a time.
In the retail business, some of the more common accidents include falling on a slippery surface or stairs, lifting injuries, sprains and strains, and cutting injuries as a result of the incorrect use of box cutters.
Slips, trips and falls are among the most serious accidents that occur in a retail environment. It’s important, therefore, to wear proper shoes that enable you to move comfortably and maintain firm footing. Make sure the soles of your shoes are designed for the surface you are working on. The wrong type of sole can actually add to the hazards you face on the job. If you see a spill, make sure it is cleaned up immediately. If you fail to clean the spill up or notify someone that the spill exists, someone else may slip and fall. Always keep aisles and doorways clear of boxes, product, fixtures, and tools.
Improper lifting is the greatest single cause of back pain and injury. It’s very important that merchandisers learn and practice good lifting techniques. If you think you need help lifting, don’t hesitate to ask. Some common mistakes employees make when lifting include twisting and lifting at the same time, reaching for objects instead of using a ladder, bending and overextending, and lifting cartons that are too heavy.
Consider the following techniques for proper lifting:
1. Stand close to the object that you are lifting and plant both feet firmly on the floor. Point your toes out.
2. Squat down close to the object with your back straight, knees bent and stomach muscles tight.
3. Grip the object firmly with both hands, not just your fingers.
4. Stand up slowly, keeping your back straight and letting your legs do the lifting.
5. Avoid bending from the waist. Keep your knees bent and back straight when lifting from the ground.
6. Reverse the above procedures to put the load down.
7. Never jump. A jump from a short height, such as the back of a trailer or loading dock, can cause serious injury.
Protecting yourself from the potential hazards of your work environment can be achieved by using personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in your merchandising position. For instance, while working with chemicals, always read the container label. Even small spills in the retail environment can lead to harmful human exposure. For those who are unloading, handling or assembling any heavy-duty fixtures, gloves should always be worn, as well as when working with refrigerated/frozen food products.
The incorrect use of box cutters not only accounts for personal safety, but also damaged or unsaleable goods. Employees might consider wearing gloves when using box cutters. Use one-sided blades with safety handles. Sharp blades should be stored in a safe manner when not in use and employees should never leave a sharp blade unattended on the sales floor.
Unsafe behavior in the retail workplace depends on correct training and diligence. To avoid injury to yourself or damage to merchandise, follow these simple instructions:
1. Place the box on the floor, setting it at such an angle that you will not be pulling the box cutter toward you. Make sure that the line of tape is horizontal, not vertical, in relation to you.
2. Place your hand on the opposite side of the box.
3. Make a series of small, smooth cuts rather than cutting straight across all at once.

For at least the next twelve months, more than six million UK families will be living in a state of fear and financial uncertainty. According to recent research, homeowners, many of them already ridiculously exposed due to paying well above the true market price in an effort to get on the property ladder now face the real risk that unemployment or illness will cause them to fall behind on their mortgage payments and they will face eviction. And it won’t take much for them to find themselves in such a position
Statistics now show that more than sixty percent of the working population are living on a day to day basis with this fear, and are increasingly fretful, largely due to increasing silence from both the banks and the government on policy regarding repossessions. Many of the public feel that the government has paid too much attention on bailing out the banks and insurance companies, and not on providing some form of “safety net” for home owners.
While the feeling is that the credit crisis has bottomed out and the only way from here is up, for much financial security is still a long way away. In the meantime, with more than 40% of mortgage payments dependant on joint incomes, there are many families juggling their incomes on a very fine balance.
And their fears are not without foundation, with the Council of Mortgage Lenders currently estimating that more than 75,000 UK homes will bill repossessed in 2009, adding more than 300,000 people to the list of homeless.
Understandably this fear can cause tremendous repercussions within the family, and many consumer societies are simply requesting some form of official statement clearly laying out the criteria under which a family will be evicted from their home and what steps can be taken to prevent this from happening.
This scenario is too real for too many people, with information from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) showing that the number of mortgages in arrears rose by 31 per cent in 2008 and that two and half million mortgages holders will see their property fall into negative equity in 2009.
How are these super powers for the characters in my story 10 points comments are best?
Jadzia – human
Crystal – to look at something and digest all information about it (movie, books, or peoples thoughts) (the person(s) thoughts can only be read thoughtfully one at a time and she has to have time to wait to be able to read another one)
Amber – able bring up memories from long ago and to block out memories (cause of bubbly personality) (thoughts are erased they can’t be brought back)
Marina – can make memories alter and cause creatures to be in fear because of their past that affects their present
Demetrio – be able to see what an object has been used for (if a knife has killed a person he can see that but can’t see who had done it)
Damein – can make self disappear from a room ( physically be there but unless someone pays close attention doesn’t seem to be there)
Jason – can make a safety net for a short period of time (other then who he chooses louses all emotions when they reach the net )
That’s a pretty good list I’d say. It leaves enough flaws for things to go wrong or be missed, which will help complicate the plot. And they’re not all perfect, which is the best bit of all! If there was one I didn’t like it was Jason, maybe tweak it a little bit to make it different.
I think your names are fine, remember that not everyone is going to make up nicknames for themselves like they’re the X-Men. Harry Potter didn’t have anything remarkable abuot his name and look what happened with that series. I think Harry Potter is about as random as you get, lol. Good luck

Cooking with your children can serve a variety of useful and enjoyable functions. By making a meal with your kids, you can (hopefully) ensure that they will be creating a meal they will actually eat, and enjoy eating, at that! Also, sharing your time in the kitchen with your children can be a great family bonding experience, bringing your family together during an activity that is usually done solo. Finally, cooking is a great way for your children to exercise their curiosity, creativity, and innovation in exciting ways.
Here are some fun “kid-friendly” cooking projects that you can enjoy with your whole family!
Pizza Workshop
A great activity that can be lots of fun is to set up a pizza making workshop. You can make miniature, personalized pizzas that each person can top with whatever they want!
For the crust, you can either buy pre-made personal sized pizza dough or you can use bagel halves for even greater ease. Set up a table with a bowl of pizza sauce, and a number of smaller bowls all filled with various toppings-pepperoni, peppers, onions, olives, ham, sausage, pineapple, and of course, cheese.
Let the kids put their own sauce, cheese and toppings on their pizza, and then you can pop them into the oven for a quick bit to melt all the cheese. When it’s finished, you’ll have a great meal that everyone helped make!
Build the Biggest Sandwich!
Similar to making a pizza workshop, you can make a giant sandwich with your kids. To do this, buy several baguettes of French bread, cut the ends off, and line up the baguettes next to one another so that it looks like one long sandwich.
Once your bread is laid out, your family can begin topping the sandwich with all the meat, cheese, toppings and dressings that you want. You can designate different themes for different sections of the sandwich, let each person create their own part of the sandwich, or just go crazy and throw everything on. Your creative options are limitless!
Cookie Decorating Station
Especially around the holidays, or for birthday / holiday parties, cookie decorating stations can be a great idea. Roll out some sugar cookie dough on a countertop or table and give the kids a lot of cookie-cutters to choose from. Another fun option is to give them kid-safe knives and let them cut out their own designs.
Once the cookies are baked, you can let them decorate the cookies with various colors / flavors of frosting, candy, sprinkles, or any other toppings you can think of!
